Speed Faves Piss Me Off...

  • Mood: Pissed Off
  • Listening to: Nothing right now.
  • Reading: Nothing right now.
  • Watching: Nothing right now.
  • Playing: Nothing right now.
  • Eating: Nothing right now.
  • Drinking: Nothing right now.
Does anyone else feel that it's incredibly annoying (and somewhat degrading) to find that your work has been speed faved? This happens to me a lot. And it gets me mad.

I see nothing wrong with getting faves, mind you, but when I get an activity message telling me that someone has added a deviation of mine to their faves or collection or whatever, I get a bit wary nowadays. I dread clicking on the account name and finding myself directed to someone who adds pictures to their favorites just for the sake of clicking a button. There's nothing quite like the feeling of seeing that your work was faved, but so was 100 other people's within the same 30 seconds by the same person. It makes me feel like crap because I know my work is going unappreciated.

I understand that you cannot always expect to get a comment in addition to a fave, or vice versa even. But seriously, take some fucking time to look at the damn picture. That's the whole reason why you're on DA, isn't it? To upload your own art and take a look around at other artists' work. It's not that hard to do to click on a picture, spend a few moments looking at it, and then add it to your faves or the like. At least you know what the hell you're faving then.

Personally, I do not always comment when I fave. I try to most of the time, but sometimes, I just cannot think of the right thing to say to express myself, and I don't like leaving comments that read as "awesome" or "nice" and nothing else. Even those I wouldn't mind getting on a deviation because they require SOME effort to type. But clicking a button on your mouse is BELOW the level Minimal Effort.

Speed Faves are like spam. There's just nothing to them. And now that DA has been updated, it is possible to add a picture to your faves WITHOUT looking at it. That's right folks. With just a click and a drag, you can actually fake art appreciation without even lifting a finger. Quite literally. Here, I'll show you: Click your mouse... end of demonstration. Didn't even lift your clicking finger, did you?

This is what has set me off on the rant. I uploaded a photo today and saw that almost immediately it got a fave. I clicked on the picture in my gallery rather than my message inbox to see who liked it. Interestingly enough, I saw that the photo had 1 fave... and 0 views.

So, as you can see, it really bothers me when I find that I've been speed faved. I've stopped thanking people who fave so much that I cannot even find my deviation in their favorites because it's already 40 pages in. When I fave, I try to restrain myself to giving out 4 a day because that's the max that can be seen on my profile page, and I personally like to show my faves for the day to anyone who happens by my page. Think of it as a day-long feature, cause that's pretty much what it is. If I give out more than 4, it's usually because the first few I faved were very popular already and wouldn't miss a mini promotion. Rarer occasions see me log into DA a few hours after my first log in, and by then I'm in a mood to check out some stuff again. But I still try to hold back the reins.

To any of my watchers who add a few faves a day, I'm not in any way attacking you. I know that you all have an appreciation for art and probably don't do this. Heck, I KNOW you don't because you guys have commented on my work and you've certainly commented on the work of others. This is just me venting, because I really get annoyed when I see speed faving.

I speed fave sometimes but that doesn't mean to say that I like the work any less, more that I am enthusiastic in my enjoyment of it. I don't think everyone who speed faves is insincere. Sometimes even the thumbnail delights me so I will fave it immediately and then look at it larger sized. :)

I see what you're saying, but the odds of your one picture coming up out of all of a speed-faver's faves is seriously 1 in 1,000,000 at times. -.-

I just felt the need to vent, though. I'm gonna change my journal up today so I don't look so angsty anymore. ;)

I guess I can understand that, but what gets to me is not necessarily a person adding a lot of faves within a day, but adding a lot of faves within 2 minutes. And I could possibly see faving a picture and then another few immediately afterwards if you stumble across them on the newest deviations page and don't want to lose them, but sometimes I really can't help but wonder when I check out the favorites page on some accounts. I've seen things in the scraps category faved by the same person who faved what I personally consider to be really amazing work. Not my own, of course, someone else's work ;P.

I was mad about the person faving my work and then not looking at it, though. It stayed on 0 views for a while after the 1 fave came through. I don't think the person ever went back to look at it, which was what initiated the rant.

I'm changing my journal today, though. Getting rid of the angst. ;)

I wasn't having a go at you or anything, I guess I was trying to say there are worse things in the world to be concerned about. ;) I've faved people's scraps if I really liked the pic, and I've faved really popular stuff. And I don't really mind how people fave my stuff, I just appreciate the fave! ;) :D But I understand that it is easy to be niggled by things. Just try not to let it get to you...life is too short! ;)

That said, have a good weekend! :D

Oh, I didn't think you were doing anything like that. I'm very sorry if I came off that way. I did not mean to. I was just trying to explain myself a bit more, that's all. :)

And yes, there are worse things to worry about. Looking back over the journal, I myself thought that I overreacted, which is why I changed it the next day. ^^;

I don't usually get like this. Just had some stress the past few weeks and it kinda got the better of me here. -.-
Thanks for taking the time to talk to me a bit, though. :)
You have a good weekend too
